Current and new members
In general FSO rehearses every Thursday evening 19:45–22:00 during school term times, with an additional rehearsal from 14:15–17:15 on the Saturday of the concert.
The first rehearsal of the autumn term is on Thursday 21st September 2017.
The venue is our standard venue, Trinity Church, North Finchley, N12 7NN. For more information on getting there, see our Contact Us page.
For exceptions to this rule, such as half-terms and sectionals, and rehearsals when not all players are required for repertoire reasons, please refer to the detailed rehearsal schedule.
Concerts are normally 19:30 on a Saturday. Dress is normally black tie for men, all-black for ladies, although for the summer concert we may opt for all-black for men as well.
FSO is a friendly orchestra with a relaxed atmosphere but a high standard of playing maintained by a strong shared enjoyment of the music we play — if we don't like it, we don't play it!
So, if you play the violin, viola, cello or double-bass to an advanced amateur standard and have good sight-reading ability and some orchestral experience, or if you have been professionally trained but no longer make your living by playing, we would love you to contact us with a view to arranging to come, informally, to a rehearsal.
Vacancies also occur in the wind, brass and percussion sections from time to time. Formal solo auditions are not normally required. If you are an advanced amateur or professionally-trained player with good sight-reading ability, you are invited to contact us so that we can arrange for you to join a deputies list, to play for occasional rehearsals before any commitment is made on either side.
