Current and new members
FSO regular rehearsals are on Thursday evenings during school term times 19:45–22:00.
We rehearse and give most of our concerts in Trinity Church, North Finchley, N12 7NN. For more information on getting there, see our Contact Us page.
For the dates of our rehersals and concerts, including half-term breaks and holidays, please refer to the detailed schedules:
If only some players are required for a rehearsal, you will be notified in advance.
Please notes that the first rehearsal of the 2018/2019 season will be on Thursday 20th September 2018.
Concerts are normally at 19:30 on a Saturday with a final rehearsal in the afternoon from 14:15 to 19:15. Dress is normally black tie for men, long black for ladies, although for the summer concert the dress is all-black for men as well.
FSO is a friendly orchestra with a relaxed atmosphere but a high standard of playing maintained by a strong shared enjoyment of the music we play — if we don't like it, we don't play it!
So, if you play the violin, viola, cello or double-bass to an advanced amateur standard and have good sight-reading ability and some orchestral experience, or if you have been professionally trained but no longer make your living by playing, we would love you to contact us with a view to arranging to come, informally, to a rehearsal.
Vacancies also occur in the wind, brass and percussion sections from time to time. Formal solo auditions are not normally required. If you are an advanced amateur or professionally-trained player with good sight-reading ability, you are invited to contact us so that we can arrange for you to join a deputies list, to play for occasional rehearsals before any commitment is made on either side.
